Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev was eliminated in the second round of the ATP 500 Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, Germany, a men’s grass-court tournament with a total prize pool exceeding €2.5 million.
Rublev fell to his Argentine opponent Tomás Martín Etcheverry after a hard-fought three-set match (6-3, 6-7, 7-6) in a marathon encounter that lasted three hours and one minute on Thursday.
The 25-year-old Argentine, Etcheverry, will now advance to the quarterfinals, where he will face another Russian player, Karen Khachanov. Khachanov secured his spot by defeating Belgium’s Zizou Bergs in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) in their match on Wednesday.
