European Commission calls for relief workers be allowed to do work

European Commission calls for relief workers be allowed to do work

Brussels - Saba:

The European Commission has called on all parties to allow humanitarian workers in the Gaza Strip to do their work.

According to Anadolu Agency, last night, the spokeswoman for the Commission, Eva Herncirova, referred to previous statements by Tom Fletcher, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, that "efforts to save lives in Gaza have reached a breaking point."

She noted that the European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Haja Lahbib, was in contact with Tom Fletcher and they discussed the situation in Gaza.

"We call on all parties not to attack humanitarian aid convoys. Humanitarian workers must do their job. We urge everyone to comply with international humanitarian law," Herncirova added.

On Monday, the United Nations condemned the Israeli occupation army's targeting of a World Food Program convoy in Gaza, and called for rejecting violations against the crews of agencies working in the field of humanitarian aid to support the Palestinians amid the siege and war of extermination committed by Tel Aviv for 15 months.

Late Monday evening, the World Food Programme strongly condemned the "horrific incident" on Sunday, "when Israeli forces opened fire on a convoy clearly marked with its signs, near the Wadi Gaza checkpoint" in the central Gaza Strip.

With US support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 155,000 people injured, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, amid massive destruction.
