Tunisian authorities recover 20 illegal immigrants off coast Sfax
[Thu, 19 Dec 2024 12:52:15 +0300]

Tunisia - Saba:
The naval units of the Tunisian Coast Guard recovered the bodies of 20 illegal immigrants, while rescuing five others off the coast of Sfax in central eastern Tunisia.

The General Directorate of the National Guard said in a statement today, Thursday: The naval units of the Coast Guard were able to recover 20 bodies of illegal immigrants, and the Coast Guard forces were able to rescue five others, after their boat sank about 13 nautical miles off the coast of the Al-Lawza area in the Sfax Governorate.

Rescue and search efforts for the rest of the missing are still ongoing.

It is noteworthy that these incidents have been repeated during the past period, at a time when Tunisia is trying to confront the phenomenon of illegal immigration, especially after its coasts have turned into something like a platform for thousands of immigrants who have flocked to it from sub-Saharan African countries to cross to the Italian island of Lampedusa.
