Yemeni Federation of Trade Unions warns of Aden government's economic escalation
[Wed, 12 Jun 2024 18:59:56 +0300]

SANA'A June 12. 2024 (Saba) -The General Federation of Yemeni Trade Unions warned of the dangers of escalatory measures targeting the vital economic and service sectors in the country, implemented by Aden government at American instruction and with open Saudi complicity.

The Union indicated in a statement, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), that the escalation affected the commercial banks that manage 80% of the banking activity in the country, stopping dealing in the old currency and trying to target the external financial transfers of about 6 million expatriates who support hundreds of thousands of families, in addition to To target the telecommunications sector, which is one of the most important service sectors employing workers, and the number of its employees exceeds more than 31,000 employees who support 31,000 families, in addition to tens of thousands of workers in providing telecommunications services throughout the country.

The Union stressed that the successive economic escalation adds additional burdens to millions of Yemenis, and is tantamount to declaring a full-fledged war.

It stated that the measures taken by the Aden government will not have any positive effects on the living and humanitarian situation in the southern provinces, as they will double the severe recession witnessed in the markets, push towards more suffering in those provinces, , threaten what remains of the living and economic stability of about 24 million people living in Provinces administered by the Sana'a government.

The Union called on the United Nations, all unions and labor movements in the world, and the Arab and International Labor Organizations to play their humanitarian and moral role to stop this irresponsible escalation that is pushing millions of Yemenis to the brink of famine.

Holding the Saudi-Emirati coalition countries responsible for this dangerous escalation and all its humanitarian repercussions.
