LONDON June 11. 2024 (Saba) - The British University of Swansea announced its intention to withdraw its investment - amounting to five million pounds sterling - from Barclays Bank within the next two months, because the latter finances Zionist arms companies.
The university said that it is in the process of withdrawing its investments from the bank in response to the demands of the protesters who remained in the university grounds for 28 days, rejecting the investment of their universities in companies that support the ongoing Zionist war on the Palestinians in Gaza Strip.
In a post on the “Palestinian Community” page at Swansea University on Instagram, university students hailed the decision as an “important victory” that came as a result of the demands they put forward, including the withdrawal of investments from unethical companies.
The students said they are awaiting for confirmation following the final withdrawal of investments.
In addition, one of the asset management companies, with which the university cooperated, has formulated new investment policies, prohibiting any future investment in weapons manufacturers and nuclear weapons companies.
