GENEVA December 10. 2023 (Saba) - The World Health Organization warned on Sunday that the health system in the Gaza Strip is on the verge of collapse, and every hour that passes reduces the opportunity available to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.

According to the Palestine Today Agency, the Director-General of the Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said at the opening of an extraordinary session of the Executive Council of the World Health Organization dedicated to examining the consequences of the Zionist aggression on Gaza: “The impact of the conflict on health is catastrophic.”

Gebresov stressed that health personnel are performing impossible tasks in difficult circumstances.

Ghebreyesus pointed out that more than 449 health care centers in Gaza and the West Bank were exposed to Zionist attacks, noting that the health system in Gaza is on the verge of collapse, noting that only 14 out of 36 hospitals are partially functioning.

Ghebreyesus stressed that a ceasefire represents the only solution to protect the health of Gaza residents.

For his part, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, Karl Skau, said: “Half the population is starving, and nine out of ten do not eat every day. It is clear that the needs are enormous.”

Skaw added in press statements: “The situation inside Gaza has become increasingly chaotic... There is a question how long this can continue, because the humanitarian operation is collapsing.”

In turn, World Food Program Regional Director Corinne Fleischer considered that "the only way to eliminate the threat of famine in Gaza is a ceasefire to allow widespread access to food."
