The Deir al-Balah Municipality in the Gaza Strip warned on Friday evening of a comprehensive collapse in basic services provided by municipalities in the Strip.
This is due to the shortage of diesel and fuel for more than four months, which has led to a near-total paralysis in the operation of water wells and sanitation and hygiene facilities.
The municipality said in a press release that Israeli enemy forces destroyed approximately 50% of water wells, particularly in the eastern areas of the Strip, and directly targeted municipal vehicles and facilities, exacerbating the humanitarian and living crisis facing residents.
The statement added that sewage pumps are almost completely out of service, forcing municipalities to discharge wastewater directly into the sea, given the lack of fuel needed for operation. This poses a serious threat to public health, especially with the rise in temperatures and the onset of summer.
