SANA'A, Nov. 14 (Saba) - European Commission - Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) presented a support at the amount of 2.3 million euro, about $ 2.5 million, to support air and sea transport services run by the World Food Program (WFP) in Yemen .

A press statement issued by the World Food Program received by Saba , said that the program has activated UN humanitarian air services (UNHAS) in May 2015 to be capable to provide safe air transport for humanitarian workers and to facilitate humanitarian shipment and response to the crisis in Yemen.

In this context, WFP Country Director in Yemen, Torben Due, said that UE contribution will enable WFP to face one of the most important challenges that hinder the appropriate response to meet the needs of millions of Yemenis.

"It is estimated that more than 80 per cent of the population in Yemen in need of humanitarian relief, and logistical support provided by the WFP is essential to support other humanitarian organizations working in the country", Due added.
