UNRWA: Airdropping aid is costly, dangerous, distracting

Gaza - Saba:

Sam Rose, Acting Director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, said on Sunday that the fundamental problem with aid delivery lies in the access and crossing system.

In a video posted by UNRWA on its X platform account, Rose emphasized that airdropping aid is a costly, dangerous, and humiliating option, and it distracts from the real solution, which is to open Gaza's crossings to ensure the continued entry of aid trucks.

He explained that what is required is to ensure safe and widespread access for aid trucks through the United Nations, including UNRWA, to meet the worsening humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been facing an unprecedented wave of hunger since the Israeli enemy closed the Strip's crossings in early March, imposing severe restrictions on the entry of food, relief aid, fuel, and medicine.

With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has continued to commit genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the martyrdom of 61,430 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom were children and women, and the injury of 153,213 others. To date, this is a preliminary toll, with thousands of victims still buried under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulances and rescue teams.
