English club Aston Villa announced on Friday the signing of Ivorian footballer Evan Guessand from French side Nice.
The English club shared photos of the player wearing the team’s jersey, confirming that he will wear the number 29 shirt. However, no details about the contract length or transfer fee were disclosed.
Guessand expressed his excitement about joining Aston Villa, stating in a post on his official website:
"I am extremely happy to be here. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, and now I’m excited to train with my new teammates, play my first match, and see the fans."
The 24-year-old striker highlighted that Aston Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, played a key role in his decision to join the club, expressing confidence in the coach’s ability to bring out the best in him and help develop his skills.
Guessand joined Nice’s academy at the age of 12 and was loaned to Swiss club Lausanne during the 2020-2021 season, then to Nantes in 2022-2023, before returning to Nice. Over the past two seasons, he emerged as a standout player, making 42 appearances and scoring 13 goals.
Aston Villa finished 6th in the Premier League last season and will compete in the Europa League next season.
