Berlin - Saba:
Health authorities in the German city of Hamburg have detected an outbreak of Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib), which has so far infected 16 people and caused three deaths.
The Robert Koch Institute for Disease Control and Prevention (RKI) confirmed that there is no cause for concern for healthy people.
A spokesperson for the institute explained that while Hib can colonize the nasopharynx of adults, healthy people are able to eliminate the pathogen.
He indicated that it is not possible to speak of a nationwide outbreak of the infection in Germany at this time.
