Edinburgh – SABA:
Scottish First Minister John Swinney expressed his country's rejection of the Israeli government's expanded occupation in the Gaza Strip on Friday, urging the international community to hold Israel accountable.
In a post on X following the approval of full-scale occupation of Gaza by Israel's mini-war cabinet, Swinney stated:
- "The Israeli government's decision to seize Gaza is utterly unacceptable. This will exacerbate Palestinian humanitarian suffering and escalate conflict."
- "The international community must rein in Israel and enforce a ceasefire." (Source: Palestinian official news agency)
With U.S. and European support, Israel's army has committed genocidal crimes in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in:
- 61,258+ Palestinian civilians martyred (mostly women/children)
- 152,045+ injured (as of Thursday)
- Thousands still trapped under rubble, unreachable by rescuers
