The Geophysical Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East recorded a 5.7-magnitude earthquake in the region this morning, Wednesday.
According to seismologists, the epicenter was located at a depth of 82.3 km and 342 km from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. No information has yet been received about whether residents felt the earthquake, according to Russia Today.
On July 30, the strongest earthquake since 1952, measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale, struck Kamchatka. Tremors of up to 8 magnitude were also felt in the northern Kuril Islands. The resulting tsunami caused partial damage to port infrastructure and other facilities.
Last Monday, the region's Main Emergency Department announced that 49 aftershocks had been recorded in the past 24 hours.
