Ankara - Saba:
The Turkish presidency stated on Tuesday that Ankara expects the possible negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul to contribute to a ceasefire and the establishment of peace in the region.
According to Russia's Sputnik news agency, a representative of the Turkish presidency said: “I would like to remind you of President (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan)'s statement that there will be no losers in the peace process. What do we hope for? A ceasefire and peace in the region. I believe the entire world is waiting for this.”
One of the organizers of the negotiations previously told Sputnik that a new round of talks between Russia and Ukraine is scheduled to be held on July 24 and 25. The third possible round of talks is expected to take place at the Çırağan Palace in Istanbul, and a media complex will be set up for journalists.
He added: “A designated media area will be arranged for the press in the garden of the meeting venue. Entry to the area will be permitted starting at 8:00 a.m. on the day of the meeting.” He noted that the delegations will be able to hold press conferences at the venue, with two separate halls prepared for that purpose.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier stated that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, proposed that Russia hold another round of negotiations next week.
Russia and Ukraine previously held two rounds of direct negotiations in Istanbul, which resulted in prisoner exchanges and Moscow handing over the bodies of fallen soldiers to the Kyiv regime. The two sides also exchanged draft memoranda of understanding on resolving the conflict.
