Paris – SABA:
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Tuesday escalated his country’s stance against the Israeli military escalation in the Gaza Strip, describing the humanitarian situation in the enclave as “unacceptable” and “a scandal that must stop immediately.”
In press statements, Barrot said, “The humanitarian situation in Gaza is unacceptable. What is happening there is a humanitarian scandal that must end immediately,” stressing the urgent need to halt the ongoing Israeli military operations that have lasted for months.
The minister added, “I demand that the press be allowed into Gaza to show the world what is happening there,” in a direct call to lift restrictions on media coverage of events inside the Strip.
In a clear condemnation of the recent Israeli ground offensive, he said, “The new ground assault on Gaza is condemnable. There is no longer any justification for this ongoing aggression.”
These remarks come amid growing international concern over the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, as relentless bombing continues, along with severe shortages of essential supplies and restrictions on humanitarian aid.
Backed by the U.S. and Europe, the Israeli army has continued committing acts of genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023. As of Tuesday, these attacks have killed 59,106 Palestinian civilians — the majority of whom are women and children — and wounded 142,511 others. The toll remains incomplete, as thousands of victims are still trapped under the rubble and in streets inaccessible to emergency and rescue teams.
