Brussels - Saba:
Lawyers intend to file a lawsuit next Thursday at the European Court of Justice against the European Commission and the European Council for their failure to act on the "genocide" in Gaza.
The EU Observer website reported on Tuesday that "Lawyers from France and Belgium are scheduled to file a non-action lawsuit with the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg on Thursday against the European Commission and the European Council for their failure to act on the crimes committed by the Netanyahu government in Gaza."
The lawsuit, which will be filed against the European Commission and the European Council, is based on Article 265 of the Treaty on European Union, which aims to punish any European institution for inaction."
The lawsuit is based on "the failure of the European Commission and the European Council to suspend the Association Agreement with Israel for 21 months, starting in October 2023, in addition to their failure to propose any sanctions or economic restrictions on the Netanyahu government, and their failure to take a public position on the risks of genocide and documented crimes."
The lawyers, who are part of the Jordi human rights organization, are also demanding urgent action to force the European Commission and the European Council to sever all commercial and political ties with Israel and issue a political statement on the risk of genocide in Gaza.
Earlier today, Palestinian medical sources announced that the death toll from the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip had risen to 58,479 since October 2023, after the bodies of 93 people arrived at hospitals in the past 24 hours.
