Geneva - Saba:
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor accused the European Union of fueling genocide in the Gaza Strip and perpetuating the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory by failing to take any effective action to halt the Israeli aggression on the Strip.
The center said in a statement on Wednesday that the European Union's failure to take any effective action to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza constitutes a flagrant failure to fulfill its international legal obligations, particularly its commitment to prevent and punish the crime of genocide. The center reiterated its commitment to options for responding to Israeli crimes, reflecting a resounding lack of political will to exert any effective pressure.
It noted that the European position embodies the insistence of many member states on their effective complicity with Israel in its crimes, giving it a green light to continue targeting civilians and destroying their livelihoods.
The Observatory added that the European position not only grants Israel virtual immunity from accountability, but also amounts to rewarding it for its crimes and strips the EU of any legal or moral legitimacy in its declared positions on justice and human rights.
The statement emphasized that the repeated European insistence on talking about "facilitating the entry of aid" is a blatant attempt to whitewash the enemy in the eyes of public opinion, given the absence of any practical and credible steps to date to fully open the crossings or ensure the adequate and safe flow of aid.
It stated that the European promotion of aid entry amounts to a real partnership in engineering starvation and represents the flip side of the bloody role played by the Gaza Humanitarian Organization.
He pointed out that the European Union's limiting its demands to sending food boxes to Gaza, at a time when entire families are being wiped out, dozens of children are being killed daily, and a comprehensive genocide is being committed against a defenseless people, represents a blatant betrayal of humanity as a whole.
The European Union called for an immediate transition from statements of observation and expressions of "concern" to concrete practical steps that put an end to complicity and dismantle the enabling mechanisms that enable the continuation of this crime.
