Moscow – SABA:
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that its armed forces had taken control of the town of Novokhatske in the Donetsk People's Republic.
In a statement, the ministry said: "As a result of successful offensive operations, units of the Russian 'East' Group liberated the town of Novokhatske in the Donetsk People's Republic."
It added that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had suffered losses of approximately 200 soldiers, along with one armored fighting vehicle, nine cars, a field artillery piece, and an electronic warfare station.
Later in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that the liberation of Novokhatske had allowed Russian forces to open a route toward another sector of the republic’s border with Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
"On July 16, soldiers from the Russian 'East' Group took control of Novokhatske in the Donetsk People's Republic," the ministry said. "During the battle, attack aircraft reinforced their positions in the town and drove out Ukrainian fighters, opening the way to another segment of the republic’s border with Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.”
