Occupied Quds - Saba:
Israeli media reported that an Israeli security meeting attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu witnessed extreme tension and a sharp verbal confrontation between senior political and military officials, against the backdrop of developments in the war on the Gaza Strip.
These media outlets said that the tension arose over the options presented regarding the Gaza Strip if a ceasefire is not reached.
They noted that the meeting, which came in the wake of escalating negotiations over a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, also witnessed a heated exchange between Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir and several ministers, most notably the extremist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, over the fate of Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
For his part, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir intervened in the debate, attacking the position of the army and the military leadership. He said, "No one ever asks the question of the price of the deal, or the price of rescuing 10 people. How many soldiers will we lose for a two-month truce?"
In response, the Chief of Staff emphasized that "returning the kidnapped soldiers is now more urgent than expanding the military operation," adding decisively, "If this is not an objective of the war, then remove it from its objectives."
This tense meeting reflects the extent of the division within the political and security establishment in the occupying Israeli entity regarding its strategy in the Gaza Strip and how to balance military objectives with humanitarian and diplomatic pressures, especially in light of the continued detention of prisoners and the deteriorating situation inside the Strip. It appears that the differences are not limited to priorities but extend to trust between the political and military levels, at a time when the government is facing increasing domestic and international criticism.
