Paris - Saba:
State-owned French electricity company EDF announced on Monday the shutdown of the Golfech nuclear power plant in the south of the country due to the intense heatwave affecting the region.
EDF stated that the plant was closed late Sunday evening to prevent the Garonne River—from which the facility draws cooling water—from overheating.
Due to the midsummer weather, temperatures in the Garonne River are expected to reach 28°C on Monday.
The company did not specify how long the power plant would remain offline.
The heatwave in France, with temperatures reaching up to 42°C, is expected to persist until mid-week.
