Bratislava – SABA:
The England U-21 national team clinched the title of the 2025 UEFA U-21 European Football Championship after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Germany in a final that went into extra time late last night in Slovakia.
The match was fiercely competitive, with England initially taking a 2-0 lead before Germany staged a strong comeback to level the score, forcing extra time. Luck favored the English side, who secured their second consecutive title and fourth overall in their history.
The English team started strong, opening the scoring early through Harvey Elliott in the 5th minute, followed by Omari Hutchinson adding a second in the 25th minute, making it seem like a comfortable win was within reach.
However, the German "machine" fought back, narrowing the gap through Nelson Weiper just before halftime. Paul Nebel then equalized in the 61st minute, leaving the score tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time, with both sides missing key opportunities—including two German shots that hit the crossbar in crucial moments.
In the first half of extra time, Jonathan Rowe snatched the winning goal for England in the 92nd minute, securing his nation’s fourth title in the tournament’s history and their second consecutive win after their 2023 triumph.
With this achievement, England solidified their position as the third most successful team in the competition’s history, behind Spain and Italy (with five titles each).
