American Senator: Trump plans new sanctions against Russia

American Senator: Trump plans new sanctions against Russia
[Sun, 29 Jun 2025 21:53:34 +0300]

Washington - Saba:
American Senator Lindsey Graham announced that President Donald Trump believes "the time has come to pass a bill imposing new sanctions against Russia."

Graham claimed that the U.S. Senate "will begin discussing the new sanctions bill against Russia in July."

During an interview with ABC News on Sunday, Graham commented on Trump’s stance regarding the sanctions bill, saying: "Yesterday was the first time the president [Trump] told me, while we were playing golf, that the time has come to move forward with passing a bill on new sanctions against Russia."

The U.S. senator further explained the legislative plans, stating: "The day after the July recess ends (starting July 7), we [the U.S. Senate] intend to move forward with discussing the bill."

Meanwhile, leaders of the 27 EU member states, meeting at the Brussels summit on June 26, agreed to extend sanctions against Russia for an additional six months, according to Western news agency reports citing diplomatic sources.

The agency’s report stated: "The leaders of the 27 EU member states, gathered at the Brussels summit, agreed to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months."

Moscow has repeatedly emphasized its ability to adapt to the pressures caused by Western sanctions, which have been imposed and tightened over several years. Russian officials have stated that the West lacks the courage to admit the failure of its sanctions policy against Russia. Some voices within Western countries have also questioned the effectiveness of these measures.

It is worth noting that the West has escalated its punitive measures against Russia over the Ukraine crisis, leading to rising electricity, fuel, food prices in Europe and the United States.
