Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that Iran is under an illegal attack by the Israeli entity, emphasizing, “Anyone who strikes us, we will respond to—we will defend ourselves.”
In an interview with Al Jazeera, he said: “We are defending ourselves against blatant aggression. Our residential areas and hospitals are under Israeli bombardment, and hundreds have been martyred due to Israeli attacks.”
He added: “Our nuclear facilities have been targeted by Israeli strikes. Their aggression is a violation of international peace and security. We are heirs to thousands of years of civilization, and we are defending ourselves.”
He continued: “We are in close contact with countries around the world and have called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities. The Security Council has failed to act due to the poor stance of certain members.”
Baghaei confirmed that “negotiations with the United States have stopped because of the Israeli aggression. This aggression would not have occurred without American approval. We were on the path of diplomacy, and it was Israel—with U.S. support—that started the war.”
He said: “We are trying to take the necessary measures to protect our citizens from any radiation. No country has the right to attack another country’s nuclear facilities. The attack on our civilian infrastructure is barbaric.”
He added: “The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, must take responsibility. His statements regarding our facilities came too late. The IAEA’s report gave a pretext for Israel’s aggression.”
