Geneva – Saba:
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed on Wednesday that more than 2,700 Palestinian children under the age of five in the Gaza Strip were diagnosed with severe malnutrition in late May, as a result of Israel's systematic starvation policy.
The agency said in a press statement via X platform that the crisis across the Gaza Strip "has reached unprecedented levels of despair, with people continuing to suffer from hunger."
It noted that only one medical point remains partially operational in the northern Gaza Strip, with fuel supplies reaching critical levels.
UNRWA called for the urgent restoration of humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip, which is subject to a stifling Israeli blockade and is deprived of all essential supplies.
Last Sunday, the Ministry of Health in Gaza warned that central hospitals would cease operations due to the fuel crisis caused by the Israeli closure of the crossings since March 2.
The Gaza Strip has been suffering from a catastrophic humanitarian crisis since the Israeli enemy completely closed the crossings on March 2, preventing the entry of food, medicine, aid, and fuel, while its army escalates its genocidal crimes against the Palestinians of the Strip.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has continued to commit genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 55,104 Palestinian citizens, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 127,394 others. This is a preliminary toll, with thousands of victims still buried under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulance and rescue crews.
