Washington - Saba:
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini on Thursday criticized the US aid distribution mechanism in the Gaza Strip, stressing that it falls short of the worsening humanitarian crisis and does not provide a solution to the widespread hunger.
In a post on X platform, Lazzarini said that the aid distribution mechanism outside UN supervision is "humiliating and degrading, endangering people's lives," warning that what he described as the "Hunger Games" could become a permanent reality in Gaza.
He stressed that the United Nations has the experience, capacity, and confidence to ensure the delivery of aid with dignity and safety, calling for humanitarian teams to be enabled to perform their duties on the ground without hindrance.
The Gaza Strip has been experiencing unprecedented humanitarian conditions since the Israeli enemy closed all crossings on March 2, preventing the entry of food, medicine, and fuel.
Last week, the Israeli enemy authorities began implementing a plan to distribute humanitarian aid through the so-called "Gaza Humanitarian Relief Foundation," an organization supported by Israel and the United States.
However, UN agencies rejected the plan, claiming it did not meet humanitarian standards for aid distribution. It was also met with Palestinian rejection and skepticism regarding its objectives and effectiveness.
Since then, the Israeli occupation army has committed bloody massacres against thousands of starving people near the distribution points.
