The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) welcomed the UN General Assembly's overwhelming approval on Friday of a resolution calling for an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the opening of humanitarian corridors, ensuring the delivery of aid, and condemning the use of starvation as a weapon.
Hamas said in a press statement early Friday that this overwhelming vote represents a political and moral victory for the steadfast Palestinian people and is evidence of the failure of the Zionist occupation and the US administration to impose their false narrative. It also reveals the falsity of claims of "self-defense" in the face of the scale of the massacres and genocidal crimes committed by the enemy in Gaza.
It considered this vote a decisive response to the US administration's veto a few days ago in the Security Council, and to its attempts during the General Assembly to pressure for condemnation of Hamas and the Palestinian resistance. It also affirmed the world's rejection of the biased US approach, which legitimizes killing and starvation and covers up Israeli war crimes.
The movement added, "The US position appeared miserable and isolated in the face of the free international will, which chose to stand with Palestinian rights and reject war, massacres, and policies of mass starvation."
Hamas called on the United Nations to transform this resolution into binding practical steps to immediately halt the aggression, lift the unjust blockade, hold the occupation leaders accountable for their crimes, and save civilians in Gaza, who face the threat of starvation and death at any moment.
