Washington - Saba:
Former US State Department Spokesperson Hala Greit has revealed her motivation for resigning from her position, saying: "It was not just a humanitarian position, but also a legal one. I swore upon joining the diplomatic service to respect the US Constitution, but the policy I was asked to promote violates US laws, the Foreign Assistance Act, the Arms Export Act, international law, and the Geneva Conventions."
Greit emphasized, in an interview on al-Qahera News Channel, that she felt a moral responsibility toward her children and her conscience, saying: "I am a human being before I am a diplomat. I cannot look into the eyes of my children knowing that I am participating in the harm to the children of Gaza, whether through silence or support. I was asked to promote genocide, and I had no choice but to resign."
Greit concluded her remarks by saying: "Yes, I lost my job, but I gained respect for myself and the world. There is... It is a human responsibility for every official, everywhere: to tell the truth and refuse to participate in crimes, even by remaining silent.
