Gaza – SABA:
A hidden chapter of the policy of collective punishment carried out by the Israeli enemy — killing and starvation are not the only things stalking Palestinians, but also a “life amputated,” forcibly imposed on thousands of them in a crime that will forever stain the brow of a silent humanity.
In the streets and camps of Gaza, the marks of this crime are clearly visible: children moving about on crutches, young men deprived of their ability to work, and families facing the constant trauma of losing loved ones or their limbs.
According to Palestine Online, thousands of wounded and starving people wait in a line that could stretch for decades at the only medical facility specialized in prosthetic limb fitting, which cannot produce more than 150 artificial limbs annually.
Since October 7, 2023, a new crime has unfolded, adding to the record of killing and starvation committed by the Israeli enemy. This crime affects tens of thousands of wounded civilians who have lost limbs — most of them children and women.
Shocking figures on the tragedy of amputations reveal the magnitude of the crime committed by the Israeli enemy in partnership with the United States, with Western complicity, and amid a suspicious Arab and regional silence.
According to preliminary reports as of this date, cases of amputation have risen by more than 225%, reaching more than 6,500 new cases.
The Director of Sheikh Hamad Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in the northern part of the Strip, Dr. Ahmed Naeem, says that many of these cases lost their limbs due to direct shelling of homes, shelters, and even the tents of displaced persons.
Naeem adds that the shortage of staff, depletion of medical supplies, and scarcity of fuel are all challenges that put patients’ lives at risk — despite the attempts of the only specialized hospital to increase its production capacity to 500 prosthetics if the siege, genocide, and starvation were to end.
This tragic escalation in amputation cases is accompanied by a complete blockade imposed by the Israeli enemy, preventing the entry of basic materials for the manufacture of prosthetic limbs — not to mention ordinary medicines, medical supplies, and food.
