Gaza – Saba:
The "Steadfastness Convoy / Sumud" in solidarity with the Gaza Strip crossed the Tunisian-Libyan border on Tuesday, in a move aimed at breaking the Israeli enemy blockade on the Strip.
The convoy includes hundreds of activists seeking to reach Gaza, according to organizers.
Nabil Chenoufi, spokesman for the "Steadfastness Convoy," described the thousands of people who welcomed them during their journey from the Tunisian capital to the Ras Jedir border crossing with Libya.
He told Anadolu Agency: "Thousands of people welcomed us warmly in the cities of Gabes, Medenine, and Ben Guerdane, and in Sfax, they organized a luncheon for us."
For his part, the convoy's media coordinator, Yassin Al-Qaidi, explained to Anadolu Agency that the Maghreb convoy, which includes citizens from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, and Libya, is expected to arrive in Cairo the day after tomorrow, Thursday, and will be at the Gaza border in Rafah, Egypt, next Monday.
The convoy consists of approximately 14 buses and 100 cars, carrying approximately 1,500 people, according to convoy spokesman Ghassan Al-Hanshiri, who spoke to private radio station Mosaique FM.
The participants plan to stay in Libya for "three or four days at most" before continuing on their way to Egypt, Al-Hanshiri told Radio Jawhara FM.
He noted that they have not yet received approval from Cairo to cross into Egypt, but he spoke of "reassuring" indicators.
The organizers emphasized that the primary goal of the convoy is not to carry aid to Gaza, but rather to carry out a symbolic act in the Strip, which the United Nations has described as one of the most starving places in the world.
This initiative is part of a broader global movement involving thousands of activists from 32 countries, aiming to pressure Israel to halt its aggression, break the blockade of the Gaza Strip, and deliver aid to more than two million Palestinians facing famine, according to the convoy organizers.
These ground movements coincide with the Israeli authorities' hijacking of the international solidarity ship "Madeleine," which was seeking to break the blockade on Gaza, early Monday morning. The ship was boarded in international waters, and 12 activists on board were kidnapped and detained at the port of Ashdod, pending deportation.
