Al-Quds – Saba:
Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini confirmed on Sunday that the distribution of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip has become a "death trap" in light of the deteriorating security situation.
Lazzarini stressed the need to provide a safe environment that enables relief teams to carry out their duties without endangering civilians or workers, according to the Ma'an News Agency.
He explained that the safe delivery and distribution of aid in Gaza can only take place through the United Nations, calling for the necessary international guarantees to ensure the safety of humanitarian personnel and the smooth running of relief operations without targeting.
The UNRWA Commissioner-General called on Israel to lift the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and allow safe and unhindered access for humanitarian aid, stressing that this represents an urgent legal and humanitarian responsibility in light of the worsening humanitarian crisis.
The Government Media Office in Gaza announced on Sunday that the death toll from the massacres at the so-called "aid distribution centers" had risen to 49 Palestinian martyrs and 305 wounded since the centers began operating on May 27, as a result of being targeted by Israeli enemy forces.
