Hodeidah - SABA:
A graduation ceremony was held today in Hodeidah for a life skills training course that targeted 200 women from fishing and low-income families in the districts of Al-Hali, Al-Hawak, and Al-Mina, as part of empowerment programs for underprivileged segments of society.
The course, implemented from April 11 to June 1, 2025, in coordination with the General Directorate for Women’s Development, was funded by the Sahel Tihama Cooperative Fisheries Association and carried out in partnership with the Creativity and Excellence Center. The training covered sewing, incense and perfume making, engraving, embroidery, and accessory crafting.
During the ceremony, the Deputy Governor for Services Affairs, Mohammad Halisy, emphasized the importance of such training programs in empowering women and improving their livelihood. He praised the skills the trainees had acquired and the quality of the products showcased in the accompanying exhibition.
Ali Kabari, Deputy Governor for the Hodeidah urban area, attended the event. Mohammad Najeeb, head of the Cooperative Fisheries Association, affirmed that the project is part of the association’s efforts to support livelihoods and economically empower women, and expressed a commitment to continue expanding such programs.
Abdul Salam Al-Maqari, the Association’s Secretary-General, described the initiative as a successful model of production-linked training programs and called for its replication on a broader scale.
Maryam Al-Attas, Director of Women’s Development at the Governorate Office, highlighted the seriousness of local institutions in supporting and building the capacity of women, noting that the products exhibited reflected the effectiveness of the training.
The graduates expressed their gratitude to the organizers, stating that the training had equipped them with new skills and opened practical avenues to enter the labor market and support their families.
The event featured an open bazaar showcasing the participants’ handmade crafts, perfumes, and embroidered textiles, drawing strong engagement from visitors and supporters.
