Alexandria - Saba:
The northern Egyptian city of Alexandria was hit by an unprecedented storm overnight and early Saturday morning, bringing heavy thunderstorms, snowfall, and strong winds exceeding 50 km/h, disrupting maritime traffic.
The severe weather caused a significant drop in temperatures, while several areas in the governorate were affected by heavy thunderstorms. Warnings are being issued that the unstable weather will continue in the coming hours.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned of significant disruption to maritime traffic in the Mediterranean Sea due to strong winds and high waves.
The Authority advised fishermen and ship captains to exercise extreme caution while sailing and to temporarily avoid marine activities.
The Authority stated that the storm was characterized by strong winds reaching speeds of approximately 50 km/h, which contributed to an increased sense of cold weather despite the onset of summer. It also caused sand and dust storms in some areas.
Satellite images showed dense low and medium clouds over large parts of the northwestern coast, including Alexandria, warning of continued thunderstorms of varying intensity over the coming hours.
The Authority clarified in its statement that the turbulent weather conditions will not be limited to Alexandria Governorate, but will extend to several areas of the western coast and Lower Egypt.
