Washington - Saba:
US President Donald Trump announced that he is considering imposing new sanctions on Russia following Moscow's largest airstrike on Ukraine since the beginning of the ongoing war between the two countries in February 2022.
Trump's statements came following a third night of intensive airstrikes by Russian forces on several areas in Ukraine.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said that he is "considering imposing additional sanctions on Moscow" in response to the recent military escalation, describing Russian President Vladimir Putin as "completely out of his mind."
Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying that his statements "cause problems," adding that he "doesn't do his country any favors by speaking this way."
Zelensky dubbed the Russian airstrikes as a "deliberate political choice" by the Kremlin and called on the international community to escalate pressure on Moscow, stressing that "the attacks have no military purpose, but rather are an attempt to prolong the war and increase human casualties."
In Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to Trump's statements, noting that "the current phase is characterized by an excessive emotional burden for everyone," and considering that Western reactions reflect "clear internal tensions."
