Göttingen - (Saba):
A new study conducted by the Department of Geochemistry at the University of Göttingen, Germany, has revealed the source of 99% of Earth's gold.
The new study indicates that 99% of the gold metal is found in the Earth's core, slowly seeping to the surface, increasing the chances of finding new quantities of it.
The study confirmed that the Earth's core is rich in gold, which seeps from the core into volcanic rocks that rise upward, carrying the yellow metal and other precious metals with them.
Dr. Niels Messling, from the Department of Geochemistry at the University of Göttingen, said: "When the first results came out, we realized we had found real gold. Our data confirmed that materials from the Earth's core, including gold and other precious metals, are seeping into the mantle."
The study emphasized that more than 99.999 percent of the Earth's gold reserves are buried beneath 2,900 kilometers of solid rock, trapped within the Earth's metallic core, beyond human reach.
The study noted that some of the gold and other precious metals we currently have access to may have come from the Earth's core, while the majority of the gold we currently have access to on the Earth's surface was delivered to us by meteorites that collided with our planet.
According to the study, other metals likely currently "leaking" from the Earth's core include palladium, rhodium, and platinum.
The study concluded that these precious metals will not emerge at a very rapid rate, and that it is impossible to mine to where the Earth's core begins, about 2,900 kilometers away, to access the gold contained there.
