Gaza – SABA:
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, stated that the people of the Gaza Strip have endured hunger and deprivation of basic necessities for over 11 weeks.
He noted that food supplies for Gaza’s children have run out, and elderly people have died due to the lack of medicine.
He described the aid currently reaching Gaza as akin to a needle in a haystack.
Lazzarini stressed that the only way to prevent the worsening of the current catastrophe is through a purposeful and continuous flow of aid.
He explained that Gaza needs at least 500 to 600 trucks daily, managed through UN agencies, including UNRWA.
The Commissioner-General called for prioritizing the saving of lives over military and political agendas.
Earlier, Lazzarini stated that aid for Gaza is piled up outside, with food on the verge of spoiling and medicines nearing expiration.
He added that the clock is ticking toward famine and that the people of Gaza are dying. He called out: “Lift the blockade, open the gates, and let us do our job.”
Lazzarini concluded: “Don’t reinvent the wheel. Creating new plans distracts from the atrocities and wastes resources,” adding that the humanitarian community in Gaza is ready and experienced in reaching those in need.
