Lebanon’s Hezbollah issued a statement on Friday following the events at the Sports City, where supporters chanted against Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
Hezbollah’s Media Relations stated: “The slogans chanted from the stands of the Sports City, which targeted Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and leveled accusations against him, are deplorable and unacceptable. They contradict national interests as well as sportsmanship and do not serve the path of strengthening national unity and internal stability, which the country needs in its journey toward state-building and reform.”
The statement added: “We call on all Lebanese to uphold the highest degrees of national responsibility and refrain from being drawn into provocative and offensive slogans that only lead to further tension and division—especially at this stage, as Zionist aggressions against our country, Lebanon, continue.”
