Pakistan's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) announced the killing of three militants in an exchange of fire with security forces in the city of Mianwali in Punjab province.
Pakistan's Sama TV channel reported on Friday that the department had launched an operation, based on intelligence reports, aimed at intercepting a group of militants who were planning to launch large-scale attacks on police checkpoints. The department noted that six militants managed to escape from the scene of the armed clashes.
The department added that rifles, three hand grenades, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the site of the clashes. The department noted that the fleeing militants are being tracked and arrested.
