On Sunday, PSV sealed the championship with a deserved 3-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam in the 34th and final matchday. Meanwhile, Ajax, who had a chance to claim the title, only managed a 2-0 win over Twente Enschede.
PSV finished the season with 79 points, just one point ahead of Ajax, who squandered their lead by earning only 5 points from their last 5 matches. Eindhoven took full advantage, staging a remarkable comeback with 7 straight wins to claim the trophy.
