The International Committee of the Red Cross issued an urgent appeal on Sunday demanding immediate protection for civilians and healthcare facilities amid ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip which has caused massive destruction.
The committee confirmed hundreds of civilians have been killed or injured in recent days while an unknown number remain trapped under rubble.
Its emergency hotline received hundreds of desperate calls from residents seeking protection with the organization stating "needs in Gaza are overwhelming and exceed our response capacity".
Medical facilities have sustained severe damage directly threatening civilian lives as every hospital forced to close or lacking supplies has devastating consequences for civilians already suffering immense pain and trauma.
Recent Israeli attacks severely damaged several hospitals including Gaza European Hospital and Nasser Medical Complex - among the last functioning health facilities - rendering them inoperable due to repeated bombardment.
The ICRC stressed international humanitarian law strictly protects hospitals and medical staff as vital lifelines warning any targeting or misuse worsens Gaza's healthcare collapse and endangers civilians now facing "complete deprivation of medical care".
Israeli forces resumed their brutal assault and tightened the siege on March 18 2025 after repeatedly violating a two-month ceasefire that began last January.
