North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called on the military to be "fully prepared" during a visit to the Air Regiment of the 1st Air Guard Division of the Korean People's Army, where the head of state led combat drills of air force squadrons in attack and air defense.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim Jong Un oversaw the North Korean Air Force's drills on May 15, which included both attack and air defense, including anti-drone defense.
Kim emphasized the need to constantly strengthen war preparedness across all military units.
The North Korean leader outlined the tasks and outlined the views of the Central Committee on practical and theoretical issues for further improving the combat effectiveness of air defense systems, aviation weapons, integrated search and rescue systems, electronic warfare, and anti-drone systems.
He noted that the fate of the war is primarily determined at military training grounds, and that all army units must be "on full combat alert."
The drills aimed to familiarize aviation squadrons, as well as anti-aircraft missile, radar, and electronic warfare units, with the tasks of detecting, tracking, and destroying enemy cruise missiles and suicide drones, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
The drills included testing a new long-range precision-guided glide bomb, a target attack exercise, a training program for destroying enemy drones using helicopters, precision bombing of naval targets, and demonstration flights of strategic reconnaissance and multi-purpose drones.
Kim Jong Un was accompanied by leading party cadres, Ri Pyong Chol, Chief Military Policy Advisor of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and Kim Yong Hwan, President of the National Defense Academy. They were received at the site by Commander of the Korean People's Army Air Force, General Kim Gwang Hyok, and Air Force division commanders.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that "Kim Jong Un ascended to the observation post at the flight control center, where he oversaw air force training on air defense and air attack."
