European stocks continue to rise, boosted by healthcare sector

Brussels - (Saba):

European stocks continued their gains on Friday, supported by the healthcare sector, and are set to end the week higher after positive news about a temporary truce in the US-China trade war spurred risk appetite.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index rose 0.4 percent, heading for its fifth consecutive weekly gain.

Other European stock exchanges also rose at the open, with Germany's DAX hovering near its all-time high.

The healthcare sub-index led the gains, rising 1.4 percent, supported by shares of Novo Nordisk and Novartis. Shares in reinsurance company Swiss Re fell 1.2 percent. The company announced $570 million in claims related to the wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles earlier this year.
