Beirut - Saba:
The "Civil Committees" in Lebanon have called for a general strike tomorrow, Thursday, May 15th, across all Palestinian camps and gatherings to mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba. The strike aims to affirm the right of return and reject the ongoing "Zionist enemy" aggression against Palestinians.
The committees stated that the Nakba is a "deep wound" and a reminder of the 1948 forced displacement and massacres. They noted this year's anniversary occurs amidst a "war of extermination" against Palestinians in Gaza, al-Quds, and the West Bank. They emphasized the "sacred and immutable" right of return and called for the closure of schools, centers, and institutions on the strike day as a sign of Palestinian unity against "Zionist crimes."
The committees also urged Palestinians in Lebanon to participate in sit-ins and protests commemorating the anniversary and condemning the aggression in Gaza. They stressed the importance of using this occasion to educate younger generations about the Nakba, steadfastness, and the right of return, rejecting alternative solutions to the Palestine issue.
There are an estimated six million Palestinian refugees globally since the 1948 Nakba, with around 250,000 in Lebanon living in difficult conditions and deprived of basic rights. The right of return remains central to the Palestinian cause.
