Ramallah - Saba:
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate called for the immediate stopping of genocide against the Palestinian people, the crimes of the Israeli enemy and its violations against journalists in Gaza and the West Bank, including occupied Quds.
In a statement last night, the union called on the occasion of the International Day of Freedom of the Press, which falls on May 3 of each year to release journalists from the Israeli enemy detention centers, restore life for journalistic work in Gaza, rebuild the headquarters of media institutions and local radio station, and provide the necessary ingredients for that.
The union urged the implementation of the international principle to prevent the perpetrators of the killers of journalists and perpetrators of crimes against them, by accelerating the international legal measures to hold the leaders of the Israeli enemy accountable and bring them to justice.
The union called for more support, in all its forms, to journalists, their union and media institutions, to enable them to continue work and steadfastness in the face of this genocide and brutal crimes.
The union said that the world celebrates on May 3, the International Day of Freedom of the Press, while Palestine is witnessing the most terrible and ugliest media extermination in history, implemented by the Israeli war machine.
It added that this genocide is reflected in the death of 210 Palestinian journalists and journalists during more than 17 months of genocide, in addition to hundreds of martyrs and wounded from the families of journalists, destroying the headquarters and ingredients of the journalistic work, and thousands of violations against journalists in the West Bank.
It explained that the Israeli enemy is still arrested in its detention centers, 55 out of 177, who have been arrested since October 7, 2023, with two journalists continued to be hidden.
The Union pointed out that the journalists insist, yet, to adhere to the profession of noble human journalism, and to search for the truth from the rubble and under the embers, stressing their professional, national and humanitarian affiliation, and continuing to perform their duty to reveal the facts and expose the occupation and its crimes to the world, offering a model that is proud of it, despite the high price they pay from their blood, tears, hunger and patience.
The Union pointed out that this insistence, associated with the efforts made by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, and the International Federation of Journalists as a firm partner, resulted in an unprecedented state of solidarity and support from all the free world, unions and press and professional federations and institutions, whose voice has become more high and clear against occupation, colonialism, oppression and persecution, and provided concrete support for colleagues in Gaza.
The union said: "We realize that we have to do more, continue to sharpen anxiety and keep the voice high. We renew our commitment to remain the third of May a day for press freedoms, and a day to confirm the pursuit of the killers of journalists and perpetrators of crimes against them and bring them to justice. This day is inevitably coming, and every drop of blood has been asked, and every spirit has went up to its innocent, and all the pain of a journalist will go."
"On this day, we renew the pride in all Palestinian journalists, and the free and sincere journalists around the world, and all people with live pronouns in the free world."
