Geneva - Saba:
The Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights has documented a sharp rise in natural mortality rates among adults in Gaza Strip, along with alarming levels of child mortality, during the longest continuous comprehensive blockade imposed by "Israel" since the genocide began.
The Observatory warned that the famine in Gaza Strip has worsened to catastrophic levels, in light of the comprehensive and illegal blockade imposed by Israel for 62 days, preventing the entry of humanitarian aid, medicines and basic commodities.
The Observatory recorded dozens of deaths as a result of malnutrition or lack of medical care and necessary medicines, the latest of which was the infant "Janan Saleh al-Sakafi" (4 months), who died in Rantisi Hospital, west of Gaza City, as a result of malnutrition.
The Observatory issued an urgent appeal to all countries of the world and relevant international organizations to take immediate action to break the illegal Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza Strip by land, sea and air, as it constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and is used as a tool to starve the civilian population in the context of the ongoing crime of genocide.
He noted that the repercussions of this policy are not limited to the present, but extend to undermining the future of Palestinians as a national community, by producing an entire generation threatened with long-term physical, psychological, and cognitive disabilities as a result of chronic malnutrition, lack of health care, and ongoing collective trauma.
These consequences are not collateral damage, but a direct reflection of a policy that aims to disrupt the normal development of the individual , society, to dismantle the biological and social foundations of the Palestinian community.
The Observatory emphasized that the crime of starvation committed by Israel against civilians in Gaza Strip is one of the most extreme, cruel and dehumanizing forms of genocide, as it is not limited to depriving the population of food, but aims to eliminate their ability to survive.
He called on all states, individually and collectively, to assume their legal responsibilities and take urgent action to stop the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip in all its acts.
He also called on the International Criminal Court to accelerate its investigations and issue arrest warrants against Israeli officials involved in international crimes committed in Gaza Strip.
