The director of the Kuwait Specialized Field Hospital in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, Suhaib al-Hams, confirmed that approximately 60,000 children in the Strip suffer from symptoms of malnutrition.
He said, "We expect the complete collapse of the medical system in the Strip to be announced soon," at a time when 95% of medicines are unavailable in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Hams explained in press statements on Saturday that the ability to continue providing medical services is at stake, noting that the current stock of medicines and medical supplies is only sufficient for one week, and that he will be forced to announce the suspension of a large number of services within a week.
He stated that the Gaza Strip suffers from a severe shortage of more than 75% of essential and life-saving medicines, noting the lack of spare parts for medical equipment in the Gaza Strip's hospitals.
Al-Hamas warned that surgeries could be halted within a week, given the increasing number of children arriving at the hospital suffering from malnutrition and skin diseases.
He said that the death rate of kidney failure patients is increasing due to the occupation's refusal to allow them to leave the Gaza Strip. He noted that the occupation is preventing the entry of essential medical equipment, while hunger is ravaging the Strip as a result of the blockade.
He issued an urgent appeal for action to allow the entry of medical and humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, open the crossings, and evacuate patients who are slowly dying every day without treatment.
