A startup at the Russian Novosibirsk State University intends to launch an innovative tool for diagnosing dental health using artificial intelligence, Novosibirsk State University told Sputnik on Tuesday.
A startup studio, supported by the Suyon Innovation Development Company, has developed an innovative dental and oral health analyzer.
The program can be used in several forms, such as a mobile application, a Telegram bot, and a VKontakte platform. According to the university, it provides a set of dental care recommendations to the user based on a photograph.
The Telegram bot, or mobile application, analyzes the condition of your oral cavity based on your smile and offers recommendations for dental care.
Rostov-on-Don University explained that the service is based on the original methodology developed by Elena Leontyeva, Associate Professor of the Department of Dentistry and Advanced Training at Rostov Medical University and Candidate of Medical Sciences. It is powered by machine vision technology, which was developed several years ago to motivate patients to maintain oral hygiene.
The technology was originally designed for general use, where doctors can use it for examinations, and patients or sales consultants in specialized stores can use it to select the most appropriate toothpastes and hygiene products for each individual case, Leontyeva explained.
The Smile Scan service is aimed at oral health, detecting signs of inflammation, early stages of caries, and more.
At the same time, it does not replace a doctor, but it helps detect problems at an early stage, making initial diagnosis as accessible as possible.
