French football club Montpellier officially announced on Tuesday the signing of Zoumana Camara, former assistant coach of Paris Saint-Germain, to take over the team, which faces a difficult task to stay in the Ligue 1, as it is 12 points behind the safety zone with six stages left to the end of the season.

Camara's appointment comes after the club sacked coach Jean-Louis Gasset after nine consecutive defeats, most recently against Le Havre (0-2) in the 28th stage of the French League.
As a player, Camara won seven titles with PSG during the eight seasons he spent as a defender between 2007 and 2015 after joining him from Saint-Etienne
