The Brazilian national team defeated its Colombian counterpart 2-1 in the thirteenth round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Brazil's goals were scored by Rafinha from a penalty kick in the sixth minute and Vinicius Junior in the 90+9 minute, while Colombia's goal was scored by Luis Diaz in the 41st minute.
With this victory, Brazil raised its tally to 21 points from 13 matches in the qualifiers, temporarily moving into second place until the rest of the round is completed, four points behind Argentina, which has played 12 matches so far. This is Brazil's sixth win in the current qualifiers, against three draws and four losses.
Colombia, on the other hand, remains in sixth place with 19 points, suffering its fourth loss in the qualifiers, compared to five wins and four draws.
In another match in the same qualifiers, Paraguay defeated Chile 1-0.
Paraguay now has 20 points, placing them fourth in the standings, while Chile remains in tenth place with nine points.
Peru also defeated Bolivia 3-1, bringing their tally to 10 points, placing them ninth, while Bolivia remains in seventh place with 13 points.
Argentina leads the qualifiers with 25 points and will meet Uruguay, who is in third place with 20 points, at dawn tomorrow, Saturday.
The top six teams in the standings will qualify for the World Cup, while the seventh-place team will enter the play-offs.
