Washington-Saba:
A new report by the Energy Research Unit revealed the Arab countries with the highest capacity to generate electricity from wind energy, until the end of 2024.

The new report showed a remarkable superiority of Egypt and Morocco by a large margin over the rest of the countries in the region, in light of the two countries' focus on expanding this renewable source.

According to the report, among the 10 largest renewable energy stations operating in Egypt, there are 5 wind farms, the oldest of which dates back to the late 1990s.

The report stated that wind energy in Morocco represents the second largest source of electricity after coal, at a rate of 15.4%, with the country hosting the oldest wind power station in Africa.

Other countries were included in the list of Arab countries with the largest wind energy capacity by the end of 2024, including Mauritania with an operational capacity of 130 megawatts, followed by the UAE with a capacity of 99 megawatts.

While the electricity generation capacity from wind energy in Djibouti amounted to about 59 megawatts, and in Oman about 50 megawatts.

Kuwait and Algeria came at the bottom of the list, with an operational capacity of wind energy of 10 megawatts each.
