The dollar rose in volatile Asian trading on Tuesday, after US President Donald Trump indicated that the United States may impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico in the near future.

According to Reuters, Trump was quoted as saying that his team is studying imposing tariffs of about 25 percent, which may be announced on February 1, but he did not provide any further details.

The dollar index rose 0.6 percent to 108.65, after losing 1.2 percent last night in what was its biggest daily loss since late 2023.

The euro fell to $1.0364, from an earlier high of $1.0434.

The dollar recovered 0.3 percent against the Japanese currency to 156.06 yen, after earlier touching a five-week low of 154.90 yen.
